Dementia Pathways. For Health & Social Care Professionals

Information on COVID - 19

COVID - 19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. Its caused by a virus called Coronavirus.  Most likely, dementia does not increase risk for COVID-19, just like dementia does not increase risk for flu. However, dementia-related behaviours, increased age and common health conditions that often accompany dementia, like frailty and weight loss, may increase risk.

For health information and advice, read HSE pages on coronavirus. Information for healthcare professionals is available on HPSC
